Every damn night there's a Jeep Compass with poorly adjusted headlights that sits juust far enough behind me in the next lane to shine directly into my wing mirror.
every. night.
It's bad that I'm considering tinting my car so I can drive at night and see properly.
Torana unrelated to story.

adjust your mirror? Don't leave ahead of the jeep?

Cars need to come with wing mirrors that dim the way the rear-view one does.

my mum's Eos does. my 24 year old car does not. :(

bah, I don't need your common sense or logic.

All cars.

It's available on some cars. Corvette 3lt for example.

This story reminds me of the old Spielberg movie, "Duel."
It's just creepy that you're being followed by the same car every night. Especially a dreadful Jeep Compass.

Does he work at the same place as you? Maybe you could leave a note letting them know about the problem. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll actually fix it.

at least I have power retracting mirrors, I just have to remember to put them back out when I have to change lanes.

I had exactly this same though recently when I was being followed by some particularly bright headlights that were reflecting in my driver's side mirror. "I could manually adjust my side mirror....but too much effort. Instead I will be enraged by the person behind me whose car happens to be taller than mine."

nah, it's in a different building in a secure car park. I've been tempted to follow it home a few times but normally I'm just happy when my exit comes up so I can get away from it.

it's EXACTLY like Duel only there's a thousand other cars on the road in bumper traffic at 100kph :P

If I'm sitting at the lights I'll use the mirror retract button, I don't like using it when I'm in motion because I might need the mirrors in a pinch to change lanes.

Tint it! I've got darkest legal metallic (35%, for insurance purposes and CBF double-filming) on my Calais and it is worth every cent, mainly due to dimming others' headlights. And thanks for the Torana, couldn't be in a better colour.

hmm I really like the clean look without any tint.. but we'll see what quotes I can get.
There was a dark amethyst metallic the LC's came in that's better. Super rare though and doesn't show up as nice in photos

Yeah I'm a bit young to be fully abreast of Toranas, that or not enough car shows...
If you're against tinting you could always slouch in your seat, speed off, slow down and let them past etc.
Not sure where you're based but there's a good place in Ferntree Gully, VIC where I got mine done.

I am going to invent a wing or rear view mirror that will reflect obnoxious lights back at the originator.

I'm aware that higher-end cars have them but it just seems like the kind of option that should be available on all cars, I mean, how expensive can the system be to make?

fun fact, my MR2 had mirror tint on the rear window when I bought it and the cops made me remove it (it also looked tacky as shit)

I'm up in Canberra, I got quote 200 by a tinter who does cheap deals in the winter to get people in the door, he said everyone waits till summer and he's usually booked out all the time then.
That's okay, you really don't see many Toranas around anymore anyway.
